Rock Your Vote!
Living abroad has afforded our family countless opportunities. Traveling to new destinations, making friends from other parts of the globe, expanding our world views through first-hand experience, and enjoying the benefits of an international education. In short: it’s a huge blessing. We’re thrilled that we were given the chance to live in Japan again, taking more time to explore Asia, but it’s really nice to know when this chapter comes to a close we’ll be going back home.
We love Japan, but we love our home in the U.S. even more, and though we'll live here a few more years like any responsible resident we believe in the ‘upkeep’ of our house and making sure we honor the privileges that come with it. We have three registered voters in our family, and my daughter’s enthusiasm and passion is a huge reason why being asked to collaborate with the esteemed non-profit Rock the Vote means so much.
If you’ve voted early-congratulations and thank you! But if you haven’t, you still have one day more to understand what is going on during these mid-term elections and why casting your vote makes a difference. In reading this article by the New York Times, my hope is that if you weren’t already, you’ll be inspired to head to the ballots. One vote can make the difference. Your vote can make a change.
It’s already November 6th in Japan, but since all y’all back home are still on November 5th, I’m reminding you that your vote matters. Your words matter. Your concerns matter. Your action matters. As an expatriate in the company of millions of other expatriates OUR votes matter.
So tomorrow, get up, get dressed, bring yourself, your friends, your family and your children to the ballots and vote. It’s so important, and in case you need any other words of encouragement: never doubt that a group of thoughtful concerned citizens can change the world. Be that citizen, be that change, and rock the vote!
