Recipe: Pumpkin Pie Milkshakes

Confession: I love all things pumpkin. I know. You’re stunned.

Why on earth would I love pumpkin bagels, pumpkin ice blended's from Coffee Bean, pumpkin ravioli with sage butter sauce, pumpkin bread, spiced pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, pumpkin hot chocolate, pumpkin gooey bars, pumpkin butter?

Because they’re absolutely delicious and a perfect taste of Fall. That’s why!

There are many so many pumpkin treats out there and if you’re like me you want to try them all. But sometimes you want to whip up something fast. This is why milkshakes are pretty perfect. They’re great year round and can be prepared pretty quickly. And if you’re inspired by a flavor of the season, even better.

Are you ready for a super tasty treat? Of course you are!

Pumpkin Pie Milkshake with Pie Crust Straws

Ingredients

Pie Crust Straws

1 pie crust

1 egg, beaten

2 tablespoons cinnamon and sugar mix

Pumpkin Pie Milkshake

3/4 cup pumpkin puree

1/4 cup milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

3 tablespoons brown sugar, packed

3-4 cups vanilla ice cream

Instructions

Begin by making your pie crust straws. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Roll out your pie crust then cut into thin strips. Twist 2 strips at a time, then brush each with your beaten egg. Place on parchment lined pan, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, and bake for 6-7 minutes. Once they’re done remove them from the oven and cool, preferably on a wire rack.

They’re gorgeous aren’t they? The simplest things often are and in this case, they're also a warm, crispy treat. While they cool move to your blender and the ingredients for your milkshake.

Combine the pumpkin, milk, vanilla, spice and sugar until blended. Add ice cream and blend until it's well combined and smooth. Note: before you serve check to see your milkshake’s consistency. If it’s just the way you like it-excellent, but if it’s too thick add a little more milk. Once it’s to your liking pour your milkshake into two glasses, add some whipped cream, and serve with your pie crust straws!

It really is a little like drinking a piece of pumpkin pie, and if you happen to live in a place like Southern California, it’s a nice way to beat the heat while enjoying this time of year. You hear me out there New Orleans and fellow Southern states? It may be hot, but you can still be cool. Give this milkshake a try and enjoy a cool, sweet taste of the season.

Cheers y’all!
