Talk Derby to Me

One of the most beloved Southern practices takes place tomorrow. Called the “most exciting two minutes in sports” the Kentucky Derby certainly delivers on it’s promise. Equal parts tradition, pageantry, and festivities, attending this grand event is definitely on my bucket list, and one I hope to partake in next year with my daughter. Are you ready Madeline?

For a few weeks now I’ve been watching friends on social media prepare with their friends and loved ones. From hinting at their fabulously appointed hats to seeing children’s derby parades and pictures from the fireworks spectacular, 'Thunder over Louisville’, I have been living in awe-struck vicariousness through them all. It makes a girl want to grab a fabulous hat or fascinator and celebrate as well.

But what if you can’t get to Keeneland? What if you’re like me: off in Southern California with no possibility of getting away for this weekend? Never fear local friends. If you want to run for the roses tomorrow I have several great suggestions. Follow me to our own infield and Millionaire’s Row. After all, why should you be a spectator when you can be a participant?
