Hotty Toddy! Gosh A Mighty! Who the Hell is She?

She’s an Ole Miss Rebel y'all!

In her own words, being a rebel is no longer a phase, it’s a lifestyle! After college tours, the application process, and months of waiting we’ve been celebrating the acceptance letters and scholarships as they rolled in. Northwestern, Syracuse, Missouri, NYU, Ole Miss-Madeline worked hard to be considered and we could not be prouder. But at the end of the day the choice was hers to make, and though she loved New York there was only one place that felt like home: Oxford.

There is something very special about this tradition being continued; she’ll be the 3rd generation on both sides of the family to attend Ole Miss, and to see her honoring this legacy is great. Knowing she’ll be creating her own path, however, this is what makes it special. In a first, she’ll be attending the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College as a Journalism Major.

The mission of the Honors College is to attract a diverse body of high-performing students and provide them a center of academic excellence to help them become outstanding in their fields and citizen-scholars of their communities and the world. Founded in 1997 through a gift from Jim and Sally Barksdale, the Honors College is designed for highly motivated students who thrive in small classes and seminars that emphasize reading, writing, and discussion.

Of course there’s more to going to Ole Miss than the excellent schools and programs that have produced 25 Rhodes and Truman scholars. Sorority life, tailgating during the football season, enjoying the rich, literary history of Oxford, the beautiful shops, delightful restaurants, the art scene and festivals, and the gorgeous Grove: the 10 acre spot on campus that was named for the numerous elm, oak, and magnolia trees that surround the area. There is so much to enjoy in this little town. It may be modest in size but it is huge in appeal, filled with warmth and welcome to everyone.

Is it any wonder my daughter felt right at home?

Congratulations to you sweet girl! We are so happy for you and this next chapter in your life. There is nothing you cannot do and we know you’ll shoot for the stars, guided by your compass and the earnest desire to make a difference within your heart. We love you and could not be happier for you.
