Bright Lights, Big Easy
Going home for Christmas is probably the best gift I could have received. It wasn’t in our plans originally, but as plans do, they change. In this case it was definitely for the better and everyone is happy, happy, happy.
Once flights were booked we listed our favorite restaurants and local haunts we wanted to visit, but also made a few Holiday additions as well. The first on our list? The Roosevelt downtown. If you’ve never been or even heard of it, you’re welcome in advance. This gorgeous Waldorf-Astoria hotel has been one of the pinnacles of luxury in New Orleans ever since the doors opened in 1907. It’s well known for it’s proximity to the French Quarter, the wonderful Sazerac Bar and Domenica’s, but at Christmas time it goes to an entirely new level of glam that people come to see from all over the world.
See what I mean?
When we arrived the crowds were pretty light but when we left the grand foyer was packed with sight-seers. We were a part of the starry-eyed crowd, but you can’t blame even the native New Orleanians from being wowed. Unless you’ve been there in person you just don’t get the full scope of how beautiful and carefully executed these holiday decorations are. The Roosevelt goes all out. It’s worth the visit and if you have the time, take your little one’s to the much loved Teddy Bear Tea.
If you don’t have the time, that’s alright. The decorations are reason enough to take the leisurely stroll beneath the illuminated branches. You’ll get the full experience and leave with a heart filled with the spirit of the season, and that sounds pretty nice to me. Merry Christmas Eve y’all! WHO DAT!
