Creating a Ghostly Circle

If there’s something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call?

Not me. I don’t do strange, but I do do fun-especially around the holidays and Halloween is one of the most fun.

Black cats, witches, mummies, and vampires-they’re all here. On the shelves in local stores, in our homes, they're even spilling into our front yards. Ours happens to be haunted by a group of friendly ghosts every year at this time. It’s a simple display we look forward to putting up each October 1st and this year, as it’s our last in this home, I wanted to share this fun craft with you all.

I want to help all y’all make your own circle of silly spooks.

It’s not difficult, though it can take a little time, but like it is with many things you first need to decide where you want to put your ghosts. It’s all about location, location, location. I think it’s neat to have them “floating” around something since it helps define the area you’ll be working in, like a tree, but it’s all up to you. The circle is already eye-catching. Spooktacular even!

Do you have your perfect spot picked out? Great! Let’s begin assembling these fantastic phantasms.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started. All ghost supplies came from JoAnn’s and are the amounts we use, but you can use less or more. It’s all up to you.

Creating your Ghostly Circle

Items

6 long wooden dowels (3ft long with 1/2 inch diameter is what we use)

6 medium styrofoam balls

6 large zip ties

20 yards of white fabric

Rubber mallet

Scissors

Pick up your first dowel and use the rubber mallet to drive it into the ground a few inches. Make sure it’s driven deeply enough so it doesn’t move too much and continue around in a circle. The spacing is entirely up to you. You can group it together in a small cluster or widen the circle. It depends on how many ghosts you want to create and if you have something you want them to “float" around. Regardless, the dowels are easy to pull up and move if you don’t like the spacing.

Once you’re happy with your circle use the tip of your scissors to create a hole about 2 inches deep and press the styrofoam balls onto the top of your dowels.

These are the bodies of your ghosts. One they’ve all been assembled begin draping the white fabric over the styrofoam balls.

You can keep the fabric long or short, it’s all about personal preference. I’ve seen ghost circles done with smaller squares of white fabric and they’re fantastic. I happen to love the illusion of flight, especially when the winds blow, so I get 20 yards, which I admit can get pricey, but it allows me to cut my fabric very long and layer two pieces to give it dimension. Use your coupons if you have them friends!

Once the fabric pieces are just the way you like them use your zip-tie's to secure them around the “neck”. You can still adjust the fabric as you go, ghost by ghost, around the circle with every one until each zip-tie has been used. Then you’re done! Grab a cup of apple cider, step back and enjoy during the month of October. It’s fun for you, your family, and your neighborhood.

People will be dying to get a peek of this simple and fun Halloween circle of specters!
