County Fair Fun
We’re ending our last year in California just as we began it: at the Ventura County Fair with the children and our friends.
It may have been a few years since we attended, schedules didn’t allow or several of us were out of town, but this year we were committed to go-especially since it’s our last full summer stateside. It meant going directly from VBS, but we were in great company and were going to have a blast on the rides and eating all the fair food we could get our little hands on.
We arrived about 2 and without a moment to spare the younger children got on rides while Madeline, myself, and my friend, Maria started to talk about the food vendors we had to visit. The boys had a great time. They started off on some pretty tame rides, but once our tickets were gone they knew it was time to eat everything that was fried, dipped, or eaten off the bone. No one was upset with that!
Deep fried grilled cheese, cheese curds, pork belly nachos, Mexican corn in a cup, taquitos, donuts, chocolate-dipped cheesecake, deep fried Oreos and Twinkies, turkey legs wrapped in bacon...Honey. If they could think of it, it was made and slapped on your proverbial plate. And it was all very, very good.
We continued on until Huey Lewis took the stage and the sun was setting. Our evening ended miles above the fairgrounds overlooking the ocean. Taking pictures of the coast spanning in front and behind us, being on top of the world in the larger ferris wheel was the place to be. The children and I were giddy by the scenery.
Perfect weather, fabulous fun, and a day spent with the most amazing friends. Truly, we couldn’t have asked for a better final County Fair. Our hearts are full and we are grateful for the gift of yesterday. We’re glad to share our numerous adventures planned out for the rest of our last year in California! We’re sure they’ll be “fair-y” fun.
